Honestly, from what I’ve seen, an SEO consultant basically pokes around your site and figures out why Google isn’t showing it to anyone. They check stuff like page speed, whether your content actually answers questions people search for, and if your site structure makes sense. I hired one a while back and most of the work was just fixing boring technical stuff I never knew existed, like broken redirects and duplicate pages.
From what I’ve noticed, a decent consultant spends a lot of time just talking to you, understanding your business goals before touching a single page. It’s not magic, it’s mostly patience and knowing what Google actually rewards versus what’s just an outdated myth. Anyone here tried doing their own SEO first before eventually just paying someone to sort it out?
So I hired an SEO consultant a while back after spending months trying to figure stuff out myself, and honestly it was worth it just to stop guessing. The guy spent most of our first call just asking questions about my business before even mentioning keywords or rankings. That alone told me he wasn’t just reading from a script like some of the freelancers I’d talked to before.
I think the mistake a lot of people make is expecting a consultant to hand them a magic formula. Mine basically told me SEO is slow and boring most of the time, which wasn’t what I wanted to hear but turned out to be true. Does that match what others have experienced, or did you get lucky with faster results?
